When You Need Slat Replacement

Bent slats are the most common damage we see. A slat that's been bent out of shape won't sit flat in the guide rails, which means it either jams on the way up or creates a visible gap at the bottom of the shutter when it's closed. Neither is acceptable from a security standpoint.

Cracked or split slats happen from impact — hail, windblown branches, or something hitting the shutter from inside. A cracked slat is a structural weak point that will eventually fail further, and depending on where the crack is, it may already be letting light or air through.

After a storm, it's worth checking your shutters for damage even if they still operate — a slat can be bent enough to cause problems without immediately jamming the curtain.

Our Slat Replacement Process

We assess the number of damaged slats and measure the shutter width to order matching replacement slats. Colour matching is done from the existing curtain — most standard colours are available. Once the new slats arrive, we disassemble the shutter curtain enough to remove the damaged slat and thread in the replacement. The shutter is reassembled, tested through full travel, and adjusted if needed.

If a slat has also damaged the guide rails or end caps, we address those at the same visit. It's usually more cost-effective to fix everything at once than to do multiple callouts.
