Electric roller shutter motors are reliable — until they're not. Perth's summer heat is particularly hard on motors that run in direct sun or inside metal housing boxes that absorb heat all day. Overheating causes the thermal cut-out to trip repeatedly, and eventually the motor fails. Other motors simply wear out from years of daily cycles. Whatever the cause, a dead motor doesn't mean a dead shutter. We carry replacement tubular motors for most common brands and can usually have your shutter working again on the first visit. When You Need a Motor Replacement

The clearest sign is a shutter that won't respond to the remote or wall switch at all. But there are earlier warning signs worth acting on before complete failure: a motor that hums but doesn't turn, one that runs loudly or makes a grinding noise, or one that trips its thermal cut-out and won't restart until it cools down.

In Perth, motors on shutters that face north or west often overheat faster because the housing box temperature climbs well above the motor's rated operating temperature during summer afternoons. A motor rated for 25°C ambient air temperature can see housing temperatures of 60°C or more in a west-facing installation in February.

If your shutter is stopping randomly and starting again after a rest, the motor is telling you it's on the way out. Replacing it before full failure is less disruptive than an emergency callout when it stops at a bad time.

Our Motor Replacement Process

We identify the shutter manufacturer and model during the booking call — this helps us arrive with the right replacement motor. On site, we remove the existing motor from the tube, disconnect the wiring, and fit the new unit. The motor is aligned and the travel limits are set before we reconnect and test.

If we're also upgrading from an older motor to a quieter or smarter model, the wiring may need minor adjustment to suit the new receiver. Remote programming is done on site. Most motor replacements take one to two hours.

Motor Replacement Cost in Perth

Cost depends on the motor type required for your shutter, whether it's a standard replacement or an upgrade to a higher-spec model, and any wiring adjustments needed. We quote before starting so you know the total cost upfront. Call 08 864 919 423 to discuss your shutter and get an estimate.
