A roller shutter stuck halfway is frustrating — and it can turn into something more serious if you try to force it. Forcing a jammed shutter can bend slats, pull guide rails away from the wall, or strip the motor drive. Whatever caused the jam, the right move is to stop operating it and call someone who knows how to release it safely. We've seen every common cause of shutter jamming across Perth homes and businesses, and we can usually diagnose and fix it on the same visit. Call  (08) 6491 9423 now.

When You Need Jammed Shutter Repair

The clearest sign is a shutter that stops mid-travel and won't move in either direction. On a motorised shutter, the motor may hum or cut out. On a manual shutter, the strap or crank may feel locked solid or become impossible to move.

Common causes in Perth include debris in the guide rail (grit, leaves, or in coastal areas, salt crystal build-up), a slat that has buckled slightly and is now catching on the guide, heat warping of the aluminium during extreme summer days, and a damaged bottom rail that has bent enough to bind in the guides.

After a break-in attempt, a forced shutter often jams because the lower slats have been bent inward. The shutter may close but then refuse to open, or vice versa.

Our Jammed Shutter Repair Process

We assess the position of the jam before touching anything. On a motorised shutter, we switch to manual override before attempting to release the curtain. This prevents the motor from fighting against the obstruction while we're working.

Once in manual mode, we identify where the curtain is binding and carefully work it free — either by removing the obstruction, straightening a bent slat in-place, or in some cases partially disassembling the guide rail to release the curtain. We then inspect the full curtain and guides for damage before testing the shutter through its full travel.

If slats or guides are damaged as part of the jam, we'll quote those repairs at the same visit.

Jammed Shutter Repair Cost in Perth

Cost depends on what caused the jam and whether any parts were damaged. A simple debris blockage can be cleared quickly. A jammed shutter with buckled slats or a damaged guide rail will take longer and require parts. We quote before starting any repair work so you know what you're up for. Emergency or after-hours callouts carry a priority response fee.
